Always appreciate how lucky you are

-

Sometimes in life you don’t realise how lucky you are until it’s gone, so if you are fortunate enough to get it back, it can be a delicate balance between smothering yourself in what you have missed and doing all you can to make sure you don’t lose that feeling again.

After having my double hernia operation four weeks ago, my doctor said I could run gently again this week. If you have been following my journey over the years you will know just what a big part of my life long-distance running is.

It’s not just for my mental and physical wellbeing, but also for the sense of worth that fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK brings. I also use running as a platform to encourage others to live their best lives too.

The joy of putting on my running gear and running slowly on a muddy trail is almost beyond words, and while I had lost a little fitness, I still felt strong enough. So it was all I could do to keep all my runs at a very slow, short plod rather than tearing off on a super long run.

I was so conscious that

I did not want to miss another four weeks, or worse, miss out on practising the sport I love that I managed to resist all temptation, even though some days the sun was shining and the trails were calling.

This week I also sadly received my London Marathon rejection email like so many others, I am sure. I have been lucky enough to run that race three times before but have been rejected more often. However, it won’t stop me finding another race to raise a few quid for the charity I love.

So as you read this I hope that you appreciate what you have in life and do all you can to protect it, and if you have had a fundraising opportunity disappointment too, don’t write it off this year. Find another event and help a charity you love.

I run for wellbeing and a sense of worth fundraising brings
