Brains don’t slow until 60
The brain’s ability to make quick decisions remains roughly the same between the age of 20 and 60, contrary to what scientists previously thought.
It’s commonly assumed that our brains get slower as we age.
However, a new study by researchers at
Heidelberg University in
Germany suggests that this is because older participants concentrate more on getting the answer right, rather than struggling to make decisions quickly.
Slower response times could also be explained by the participants’ motor skills declining with age, meaning they needed more time to press the appropriate button or computer key to answer the questions.
