‘Eriksen’s buzzing... he might

- By IAN BAKER

THOMAS FRANK insists that it is perfectly realistic to hope that Christian Eriksen will stay on at Brentford next season.

But the Bees boss admits the big boys are already circling after being impressed by the Denmark star’s sensational displays in his first games back since his cardiac arrest at last summer’s Euros.

Eriksen’s only two starts for Brentford have resulted in two wins, and he played a part in both goals in last week’s 2-0 defeat of Burnley.

Ex-Tottenham ace Eriksen, 30, is on a deal until the end of the season. Asked whether the great Dane’s time in west London will be short or long, Frank said: “Good question. That’s a discussion between Christian and the club. Of course I hope he will stay for a longer time.

“I’m convinced he is happy with life right now. He’s come to a club where we have a very good environment and

atmosphere. I hope he likes the project and wants to stay. It’s realistic to keep him beyond this season, 100 percent. But I’m aware bigger clubs will be interested.

“Hopefully me being a fellow Dane can be the tipping point, but let’s see.”

Frank feels a unique emotional link with Eriksen after the summer’s traumas, and said: “Everyone who is Danish saw our biggest star almost die on the grass – and now he is back performing. It will be a big thing to see him step out at Parken Stadium for Denmark on March 29.”

Frank wishes fellow Dane and Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel an FA Cup game to forget today, and added: “I’d like 1-0 and Eriksen puts it in the top corner with a free-kick! Kasper will hate that.”
