FROM this point, there are no easy pathways to a Champions League final. Of course there aren’t.

Social media was abuzz on Friday when the draw was made for the quarter-finals and semifinals.

It seemed the majority thought Liverpool had been given the plum draw.

But if the games go to form and odds, Bayern Munich will be formidable opponents in the last four.

What, though, is the point of doing the draw for the semis before the quarter-finals have been played?

Is it just gimmickry? Is it for TV, just like we now have the farce of FA Cup draws being made before a round is complete?

Play all the games, make the draw for the next round. Play all the games in the round and then make the next draw.

Change is fine… but not for change’s sake.
