Mountain medics in jet suit world first
A PArAmEdic levitates over the Lake district in a jet suit that will soon be used to reach mountain casualties.
The new kit will let Great North Air Ambulance staff on emergency call-outs whizz up to difficult spots this summer, in what is thought to be a world first.
it can take medics to fell-tops in as little as 90 seconds, saving a half-hour hike. GNAA operations director Andy mawson has completed his training to use the suit unaided and two more members are to start shortly.
mr mawson said: “Everyone is wowed by us being the first jet suit paramedics – but for us it’s about patient care.”
The suits can work in 35mph winds and could be used on up to 20 calls a week.
