Queue chaos as new watch goes on sale

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

A LONDON branch of Swatch was forced to close after 30 minutes as shoppers battled to get their hands on the new MoonSwatch watch.

There was chaos outside the Carnaby Street store when latecomers tried to push past people who had queued up overnight.

Swatch also decided to close its stores in Covent Garden and Oxford Street early for “health and safety” reasons.

Huge queues formed outside Swatch branches across the world – such as Melbourne, Rotterdam, Delhi and Bologna – as shoppers vied to snap up the must-have timepiece.

Soon after the first ones went on sale, however, the watches – which cost £207 – were selling for more than £3,000 on eBay.
