Ben scrubs up well

All good actors like to immerse themselves in their characters, but I think Benedict Cumberbatch went a bit far to transform himself into loathsome ranch handler Phil Burbank for The Power of the Dog. Speaking ahead of tonight’s ceremony, the Sherlock star – who’s shortlisted for a Best Actor gong – admits he even resorted to not washing. Strangely, director Jane Campion seemed happy to have a lunch break with her stinky co-worker.

Benedict jokes: “She would say, ‘Come on, let’s get some sushi!’ I would be like, ‘Oh, come on!’”
