Rishi has let down families

-

I know how it feels to come from a hard-working family who find it tough to make ends meet. I’m that kid who had free school meals, whose family couldn’t afford fancy clothes or holidays, or to eat out or take part in afterschool activities.

My family lived in one room to save on heating and only used the car for special trips to save on petrol.

Judging from his budget this week, clearly our Chancellor Rishi Sunak has never experienced this kind of hardship – otherwise, he would surely have gone much further to help struggling families.

His decree to increase National Insurance is an absolute disgrace.

It should be scrapped altogether in order to help families breathe – not suffocate them just when living standards are predicted to fall faster than at any other time since the 1950s.
