‘Ace kids on way at Pep’s City’

- BY david Sneyd

WILLO FLOOD is a name that belongs to

Manchester City BC.

Before Cash.

But the Dubliner – now an agent specialising in helping younger players – reckons their money will be the making of a crop of world-class homegrown talent to thrive under Pep Guardiola.

Flood emerged through the club’s old Platt Lane academy in Fallowfield into the first team with boss Kevin Keegan in 2003.

“The City infrastructure is at a different level,” he said. “For a young player to break in now, they have to be world class.

“Phil Foden is the best example – the standard for the academy lads to break through. And Pep will give youth a chance if they are good enough.

“There will be more to come over the next year or so. Rory Delap’s son Liam has played and had a taste, there is Cole Palmer, and James McAtee got his debut this season, too.

“The lads must be absolutely top notch – because that is the level City are at now.”
