Disaffected country folk ditch Tories
PEOPLE in the countryside are deserting Boris Johnson’s Conservative party.
A survey found 36% intend to vote Labour at next month’s elections.
That is just two points behind the Tory share and a 7.5% swing since 2019.
Survation polled Cornwall, Cumbria, Norfolk, North Yorks and Gwynedd for the Country Land and Business Association.
York Outer Tory MP Julian Sturdy said levellingup plans neglected rural issues, adding: “People rightly want a good job and affordable home.
“That needs to be addressed urgently.”
