Fury as Tory knight given control of C4
THE former boss of B&Q was last night made chair of publicly owned Channel 4 – a move blasted by Labour as Tory cronyism.
Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said Sir Ian Cheshire had an “impressive” business record.
He was given a knighthood by David Cameron.
It comes a day after Tory peer Lord Grade got the top job at industry watchdog Ofcom.
Shadow Culture Secretary Lucy Powell said: “This decision stinks. Rather than advancing their war on Channel 4, the Tories should focus on independent appointees who can do the job.”
