New wave of online holiday scams
FRAUDSTERS are targeting families with adverts for holidays that don’t exist.
Banks say they are dealing with a new wave of online booking scams with cases of holiday fraud being reported every day.
One TSB customer spent nearly £10,000 booking a 10-day trip to Tunisia via a genuine-looking website.
But once he had paid, the website and agent simply disappeared. Another customer who paid for a break at a Cornish cottage advertised on Facebook arrived to find no booking was made.
Paul Davis, fraud prevention boss at TSB, said: “We regularly refund customers through our Fraud Refund Guarantee.
“But when making a booking, we always advise to stick to official, recognised sites or agents.”
