OUR FRIENDS’ MOTORS ARE NOT ELECTRIC
Eco drivers fork out £720 more in 1st year
SWITCHING to an electric car will cost an extra £720 in the first year, despite the soaring cost of petrol.
A Europe-wide survey looking at the benefits of switching to electric put the UK in the bottom two countries. The Danes came out on top, saving £22,000 within 12 months of going electric.
Comparison site money. co.uk calculated the average price of a new car plus
10,000 miles of travel in the first year. They also compared the difference in price between electric and petrol cars. Danes spend around £21,938 on EVs, while petrol cars cost £43,975.
UK drivers pay a typical £27,487 for electric and £26,767 for petrol, a 2.7% gap.
Germans are £693 worse off though the price difference between EVs and petrol cars is higher than the UK’s at 2.77%.
One in six new UK cars last year were plug-ins, up from one in 10 in 2020. The target for 2030 is one in three.
