Wash Sahara dust off your fruit and veg

- BY STEPHEN HAYWARD

SHOPPERS are being urged to wash fruit and veg twice after they were covered by Saharan dust.

A huge cloud swept across Europe last month, settling on cars, buildings, trees and fields.

Now Tesco and Aldi warn it may have affected some food grown in Spain.

Tesco and Aldi are asking shoppers to take extra care when preparing fruit and vegetables such as red peppers and celery.

An Aldi notice read: “Please give your veg an extra rinse. Due to recent winds from the Sahara desert, a small amount of dust may have settled in some of our packs.”

Retail analyst Bryan Roberts tweeted: “Latest body blow to our wellbeing appears to be dusty produce from Spain.”
