Mothers must never again suffer horror
As a mother, I shuddered when reading about the “catastrophic failures” at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust over a 20-year period.
An investigation concluded that more than 200 babies might have survived had the appropriate care been given.
It is beyond harrowing to learn that vulnerable pregnant women were left at the mercy of incompetent medical professionals. Health Secretary Sajid Javid says the report was “stark and deeply upsetting”.
Well done to all the brave families who campaigned through their pain and loss to bring this investigation to fruition.
All those working in maternity wards throughout the NHS must ensure in future that patient care is at the centre of everything.
Giving birth was the best day of my life – it should be for every woman.
