Pieris japonica, lily of the valley shrub

Pieris japonica is a handsome evergreen shrub that looks its best this time of year, also known as lily of the valley. ‘Flaming Silver’ is an eye-catching cultivar with bright red young leaves that mature to green with an elegant silver variegation around the edges.

Late to mid-spring brings heavy clusters of nodding white bell shaped flowers. It requires acidic soil and to be planted in full or partial sun in a sheltered spot. Looks lovely in a pot as well but remember to use ericaceous compost.
