Boro eye Stewart

- IAN MURTAGH

MIDDLESBROUGH could swoop for Sunderland striker Ross Stewart if the Black Cats end up missing out on promotion from League One.

The Sunderland top scorer, who has just broken into the Scotland squad, has also got Swansea on high alert.

Boro have ‘previous’ when it comes to taking advantage of their local rival’s problems. Four years ago they signed Paddy McNair following Sunderland’s relegation.

With Chris Wilder set to land a transfer windfall, with £20million Djed Spence expected to join either Tottenham or Arsenal, Boro could have the financial muscle to win the race for Stewart.
