Coastalareas to be pushed into poverty

-

TORY-HELD seaside towns are more likely to be pushed into poverty by the cost-of-living crisis.

Coastal areas have been left struggling as low-paid seasonal work dries up and young people move away.

Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, Hastings in East Sussex, Tendring in Essex, Torbay in Devon and Thanet in Kent are most at risk, the Centre for Progressive Policy found.

The CPP’s Ben Franklin said: “The Chancellor may be forced to reconsider a Universal Credit uplift to help those hit hardest.”

Shadow Levelling Up Secretary Lisa Nandy said: “We need to get money back into people’s pockets.”
