FORD FIT TO DRIVE TIGERS’ EURO BID

- By ADAM HATHAWAY

Clermont v Leicester Today, 3.15pm, BT Sport

GEORGE FORD has shaken off an ankle problem to lead Leicester’s bid to rekindle the glory days in Europe.

The fly-half hobbled off in Tigers’ 22-17 win over Exeter a fortnight ago but starts at Clermont today in the Champions Cup last-16 first leg.

Leicester have not won the European title since 2002 and Ford (above) has one last tilt at it with the club before moving to Sale.

Captain Ellis Genge, who is heading to Bristol in the summer, said: “It is my last stint, or could be, in a European shirt.

“I spoke to George about it as well and we want to put our best foot forward for the club.”

Elsewhere in France, Marcus Smith leads the charge for Harlequins as they take on Montpellier.
