Jan’s final fling

WE’LL HAVE TO PLAY ‘PERFECT MATCH’ TO DUMP CITY

- By TOM HOPKINSON @tomhopkinson

JAN OBLAK has tasked his Atletico Madrid teammates with winning their ‘most important game of the season’ on Wednesday to complete a hat-trick of Premier League scalps.

Oblak and his pals beat Liverpool in 2020 and Manchester United this year in the Champions League.

And while Atletico go into Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg with Manchester City 1-0 down, he is adamant they can still add Pep Guardiola’s men to that list.

He said: “The match versus City will be like the final – for us, this is the most important match of the season and it will not be easy.

“They have a big team but we showed in the first match that they were not the City of all season and this is the type of match we need to produce again in our stadium.

“We made sure City were not comfortable on the pitch.

“I expect an intense match from the first minute and the team with the best tactical system will be in the semifinals.

“We need to be focused and without nerves, but if we have beaten Liverpool and Manchester United it is also possible to beat City.

“To do that, though, we need to play a perfect match and not make any errors in our area.

“We have been improving in recent months but now is the definitive hour.

“Atletico have a debt in the Champions League and we hope to make it the big spectacle of the season for our fans.”
