Eriksen slipped out of Irons’ grip

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN is ‘one that got away’ from West Ham, according to David Moyes.
The Danish midfielder, 30, has made a sensational comeback with Brentford following his nearfatal cardiac arrest and collapse on the pitch at last summer’s Euros.
Eriksen (left) was released by Inter Milan because in Italy he could not play with a cardioverterdefibrillator implant device and he was suddenly up for grabs on a free.
On the eve of today’s derby trip to Brentford, Irons boss Moyes revealed: “Yes, he was mentioned to us and a few clubs about coming back.
“Eriksen is a player a lot of people would look at and think, ‘My goodness’. But everybody was more unsure then.
“There’s the huge Danish connection at Brentford, with the manager and some of their players. They maybe had more insight on him than the rest of us – on his health and when he was going to come back.
“I don’t think he played for a couple of months after he first signed. A lot of people wondered how it was going to work out.”
Not anymore. Eriksen has helped Brentford race clear of relegation trouble, with three wins in his four Bees appearances so far, including last weekend’s sensational 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea away.
Moyes added: “He’s an inspiration to so many to keep going and not give up – and everybody recognises that he’s a top footballer.”
