Rodgers in dark about Kasper exit

- By NEIL MOXLEY

BRENDAN RODGERS admits he has no idea whether Kasper Schmeichel will stay at Leicester.

The Denmark No.1 has just 14 months remaining on his contract at the King Power and the longserving keeper hinted he may move on.

Asked about his future two months ago, the 35-year-old star said: ‘Maybe I will try somewhere else – or maybe not.”

Rodgers said he would approach the Dane when the time is right. There is no huge hurry – Leicester are covered in the position having paid £10million for Danny Ward from Liverpool and also have highly-rated Daniel Iversen.

But the Foxes boss (right) said: “I haven’t had a conversation with Kasper at all. I’ve always said the plan was to keep the core of the group here together, and then look to improve upon it. And he’s a part of that core group.

“He’s now at a great stage in his career. Like you saw against PSV in midweek when he’s been called upon – and he’s only really had one save to make – and he’s been there.

“His concentration is at the highest level. He’s said himself he might want to try something different. But I’ve not had a chat with him yet.

“We are all very focused on this season and will assess it from there.” Ward signed four years ago and has had to wait for his chance, making up for the lack of domestic football with sporadic games for Wales.

Asked when the chat will take place, Rodgers added: “There’s no plan to talk about it. We are all quite relaxed about it. I am, Kasper is, and so too are the club.

“I’m pretty sure there will be a conversation at some stage. The lines of communication are always open.”

Rodgers will be ringing the changes this afternoon – but there is no good news regarding Jamie Vardy who’s injury issues remain.

He said: “Jamie is having his final injection on Tuesday. We’ll see what the reaction is to that. He can do a lot of fitness work but he’s not quite there with kicking the ball. It’s pointless rushing anything because we’ve got eight games to fit in this month.

“The same team won’t play in every game. You can do it – but you won’t get the same energy and intensity.

“In general, our game has been sound. The quality of our passing, movement and energy. We just need to find that clinical edge at the top end of the pitch.

“We’ll need that against Palace. I’ve enjoyed watching them this season. They’re a team that wants to play.

“They played with a calmness against Arsenal – very impressive.”
