Yvonne honour as fight goes on

-

FORMER police officer John Murray tenderly touches a memorial to murdered PC Yvonne Fletcher at a ceremony yesterday to mark 38 years since her death outside the Libyan embassy in London.

John, 66, cradled Yvonne, then 25, as she lay dying after being shot from inside the embassy while policing a demo against Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi on April 17, 1984.

Before the retired officer laid a wreath in St James’s Square, he vowed to bring a private criminal prosecution against former Gaddafi aide Saleh Ibrahim Mabrouk.

A High Court judge ruled in a civil claim six months ago that Mabrouk, who denies wrongdoing, was jointly liable for Yvonne’s killing. He is not alleged to be the gunman.

John, trying to raise cash for a new case, said: “I do miss her, we will never forget her and she should never be forgotten.”
