BLUB YOU, MEGHAN..

- BY PATRICK HILL in The Hague patrick.hill@mirror.co.uk

HARRY and Meghan last night turned the Invictus Games into a right royal love-in – and almost a blub-in.

The Duchess of Sussex left Harry on the brink of tears with a gushing stage tribute to her husband at the opening ceremony.

And Harry thrilled the crowd by referring to Meg as “my love”.

They shared a kiss after she heaped praise on her “incredible husband”, adding: “I could not love and respect him more.”

Meghan praised Harry’s military service and also appeared to well up at the sporting event for wounded veterans .

Former Hollywood star Meghan gave an Oscar-worthy introduction as she addressed a 5,000-strong crowd – including Dutch royalty – at The Hague.

She said of Harry: “He has spent many late nights and early mornings planning for these Games to make them as perfect as possible for each of you.

“I could not love and respect him more and I know that all of you feel the same because he is your fellow veteran, having served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and 10 years of military service. He’s the founder of the Invictus Games and the father to our two little ones, Archie and Lili.

“Please welcome my incredible husband, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.”

Harry thanked Meghan and paid a special tribute to the “bravery” of the Ukrainian team. He said: “You know we stand with you. The world is united with you and still you deserve more.”

The Ukrainian team got a standing ovation. Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte also extended a special welcome to them, declaring: “We are all behind you.”

In a lighter moment, Harry told the crowd about his conversations with son Archie about what he wants to be when he grows up. The duke said: “Some days it’s an astronaut, other days it’s a pilot – a helicopter pilot obviously. Or Kwazii from Octonauts. If you’re laughing, then you’ve seen that. But what I reº mind him is that no matter what you want to be when you grow up, it’s your character that matters most, and nothing would make his mum and me prouder than to see him have the character of what we see before us today.”

Earlier Meg, 40, and Harry, 37, were seen being followed by three Netflix camera crews and a drone making a behind-thescenes documentary as part of their £113million deal with the streaming giant.

They both wore aviator sunglasses and laughed and cheered while being driven around a track by children of two competitors in miniature Land Rover Defenders.

Harry raised his hands in triumph while travelling with Dutch girl Scarlet Vroegod, four – as if to indicate they had won a race.

And Meghan, dressed casually in a £2,400 black jacket, £266 blue three-quarter length jeans and flat pumps, was seen laughing and joking with her driver – five-year-old French girl Mya Poirot.

Harry was earlier driven around an assault course in a real Defender as part of the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge.

The couple both appeared happy and relaxed just two days after their secret visit to see the Queen at Windsor Castle on Thursday.

It was the first time Meghan had seen the monarch since quitting the UK and royal duties for a new life in California two years ago.

Harry and Meghan also held “clear the air” talks with Prince Charles.

It was the first time they had jointly met him since their damaging Oprah Winfrey interview in which they made bombshell claims about racism and neglect.

Meghan will today perform a reading of her children’s picture book The Bench and is expected to return to California tomorrow. Harry, believed to be staying in a private home in Amsterdam, will stay on for the week-long event.
