ORPHANS FACE EVICTION TO MAKE
PRITI Patel enjoyed accommodation at one of Rwanda’s most luxurious hotels – a far cry from the conditions facing asylum seekers.
The Home Secretary stayed last week at Kigali’s Radisson Blu, where even a basic room costs £181 a night.
That is almost two weeks’ wage for the average local.
The plush hotel has suites that cost up to £10,000 a night.
And the on-site Italian restaurant offers guests an array of dishes including a £21 rack of lamb and £19 salmon tagliatelle.
The hotel, next to the British High Commission, also has an outdoor pool, gym and super-fast WiFi. Thousands of glowing reviews are online. One overwhelmed guest said: “God, it is incredible.” By contrast,
Hope House where the asylum seekers will be put up has two beds per room.
A local said: “A night at the Radisson wouldn’t have given Priti Patel a very good idea of what life is like here. And things will be far worse for asylum seekers who come over.”
A source familiar with Hope House said: “It is as far away from the luxury of that hotel as you can imagine.”
The hotel and convention centre cost £230million to build.
At the 2016 opening, the firm running the hotel boasted: “It features the best of world-class upper upscale facilities.”
