A great deal cheaper to fly to Europe

- STEPHEN HAYWARD

SUMMER holiday flights are nearly 50% cheaper than they were before the pandemic.

Research shows the average cost of a flight booked last month from the UK to Europe in August was £92 compared to £182 in 2019.

A flight to Venice was £41, compared to £151 in 2019, while Barcelona was £62, down from £90. Consumer group Which? also compared

routes from Stansted to six holiday hotspots and found they all cost less.

Fares to Tenerife that averaged £264 in 2019 were £170, while flights to Crete were £259, down from £373.

Long-haul was also cheaper. London to Dubai flights that cost £467 in March 2019 were £292 for this summer.

The impact of soaring fuel costs have

not yet hit tickets because airlines agree fuel prices months in advance. But Which? said costs will go up as time passes and demand recovers.

Which? travel expert Rory Boland said: “Holidaymakers planning a trip to Europe will be happy to find flight prices are a bargain. There were good value flights to all destinations we checked.”
