Readers’ £75,000 lifeline helps 52 orphans to safety
SUNDAY Mirror readers have now raised £75,000 to rescue Ukrainian orphans, helping 52 kids reach safety in Romania.
But the charity behind the evacuations says more cash is needed with many more at risk of human trafficking.
Mark Waddington, chief executive of
Hope and Homes for Children, said: “Orphanage trafficking works in two ways – children trafficked into orphanage systems to be exploited for begging etc, and then out of orphanage systems into the sex industry or forced labour.”
He said there was now an opportunity to address the injustice and to “prevent a human trafficking catastrophe”.
