Floods kill at least 395 in South Africa
THE death toll from flooding in South Africa hit 395 yesterday.
Ministers released the figure as the hunt for victims in Durban and the surrounding KwaZuluNatal province continued.
President Cyril Ramaphosa described the floods as “a catastrophe of proportions not seen before in our country”.
He said: “Just as we thought it was safe to get out of [the Covid] disaster, we have another disaster, a natural disaster.
“The floods have caused a lot of devastation.”
Last night, the official number of people who were still missing in KwaZulu-Natal was 55.
