The ups and downs of living with me

- By Kevin Webber

In two days, my friend John and I embark on our fundraising 968k Trip to Tipp, trekking from London to Tipperary.

While I love the escapism of being outdoors and the opportunity to raise funds and spread awareness of prostate cancer, there is a downside to these marathon efforts and that is not being with my family for weeks on end.

So I have been busy trying to make my wife Sarah feel loved and show her how much I appreciate all the amazing support she gives me.

This week, we’ve taken a couple of days away, walking along the beautiful South West Coast Path. Starting in Lulworth Cove, whatever direction you choose it’s up and then down and then up and down (you get the picture), which is both tough and rewarding. The amazing views over the sea to Portland Bill make the effort well worth it.

Our route took us through the army tank firing ranges that are usually closed to the public. Seeing the many burned out tanks used for target practice reminded me of the sad necessity to have our own military and the risks those men and women take for all of our safety. To cement that view we were then overtaken by a soldier in full pack running up a hill that we struggled to walk up. Respect.

With all the rubbish going on in the world and my own health issues, I feel blessed and privileged that I can enjoy such a simple escape with my wife. I remind myself that as long as I can do such things, I should find a way, as life can be so fragile.

I hope that you too take time with those important to you whenever you get the chance and make the most of all the good things that life has to offer every day you can.

Until next week,

Kev
