Yo, ho, P&O and a bottle of rum! The line’s latest ship will showcase the first rum distillery at sea when she debuts in the Caribbean at the end of the year.

The maiden production of The Tidal Rum, created by Jersey-based partner Shorts Boy Distillery, will take place in Anderson’s Bar on board 5,200 passenger, 184,000 gross tonnage Arvia.

A blend of cask-aged spirits from Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic, it features an infusion of lightly oak-smoked Pepper Dulse, a wild seaweed known as ‘the truffle of the sea’ found on Jersey’s coastline at low tide and which adds an ocean salted caramel flavour.

Passengers on more environmentally-friendly LNG (liquefied natural gas) powered Arvia will be able to try it in a range of crafted cocktails on board and it will also be supplied across the fleet.

P&O president Paul Ludlow said: “The Tidal Rum will be the perfect drink to cool down in the Caribbean heat while enjoying the ship’s views of the ocean, seashore and destinations.”

Excel class Arvia, sister of Iona, will sail her inaugural voyage from Southampton to the Canary Islands in December, then homeport in Barbados for the winter. pocruises.com
