Knockengorroch Festival, Galloway, Scotland,

May 19-22

Scotland’s leading World Ceilidh, Knockengorroch Festival, was the first greenfield festival of its kind.

Beginning with the Ceilidh Gall Gallowa’ Festival in mid-summer 1998, beside the glittery Water of Deugh, it has blossomed, changing its name without losing any of its original character.

Musical line-up is a melting pot of folk, fusion, world, dub reggae, electronic and hip-hop.

There’s also cabaret, spoken word, comedy and dance taking place across five venues, including a Celtic longhouse and a willow-wattled recreation of an iron-age dwelling.

■■ From £135 (three days)/£143 (four days). knockengorroch.org.uk

Friday night open-air cinema and live music on Saturday and Sunday nights. ■■ Weekend tickets £370 (one adult + one child), additional adults £160, additional child £210. Under fives free.
