Longstaff for longer

- BY CLIVE HETHERINGTON

NEWCASTLE’S Sean Longstaff hopes to sign a new contract before the end of the season.

The midfielder, 24, is due to become a free agent this summer but has been in talks over a fresh deal.

Longstaff is keen to put pen to paper and be “part of a powerhouse in world football in the future’’.

Toon boss Eddie Howe wants Longstaff to stay, and sources say a formal contract offer is expected soon.

Newcastle’s search for a left-back signals a summer exit for Jamal Lewis.

The Magpies are understood to have an agreement in principle to make Matt Targett’s loan move from Aston Villa a permanent £15million deal.
