Moyes: I’m driven on by defeats

- BY DAVID SNEYD

DAVID MOYES says the pain of defeat still drives him more than the joy of victory.

Looking back on Thursday’s thrilling Europa League quarter-final win over Lyon, West Ham boss Moyes said: “You realise they are special nights – but sometimes the special doesn’t hit you as hard as the defeats or the lows.

“The good moments you take in your stride and move on from. I think it’s the defeats and the lows which affect you more.

“And we have a big game against Burnley now, we’re trying to hang in there. So let’s see this year out and finish really strong and, if possible, finish in a European spot.”

Moyes expressed his disappointment over Sean Dyche losing his job, but added: “It’s very rare that you are lucky enough to be a manager who goes up and up all the time.

“Losing your job comes to us all. You just keep on doing what you do. That’s all I’ve done.

“No doubt Sean will have another opportunity to show what he can do.”
