THE brother of war prisoner Aiden Aslin is optimistic Russia will free him after he appeared in a video asking to be part of a prisoner swap.

Nathan Wood said the fact the Brit looked unhurt showed Moscow was keen to exchange him for proRussian politician Viktor Medvedchuk, held by Ukraine. Nathan, 25, said: “It gives us hope. They don’t want to show him with bruises because it could harm their chances. “The Ukrainian and Russian governments appear to be talking… now we need Britain to offer support.”

In the clip Aiden, 28, of Newark Notts, can be heard telling his fiancée Diane: “I love you. I hope the

British Government is able to push this prisoner exchange through.”

Fellow Brit Shaun Pinner 48, also appeared in a video asking to be swapped for Medvedchuk. Both he and Aiden had been living in Ukraine and serving with the country’s marines before Russia invaded.

Earlier footage of a bruised and bound Aiden was taken off YouTube.

Yesterday, PM Boris Johnson spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky24 and confirmed the UK will send more weapons.
