Grocery bills set for shock £1k-a-yr rise
FAMILIES already hit by soaring energy bills could see the price of groceries rise by £1,000 in one year, a retail expert has warned.
Clive Black said a disastrous combination of inflation, war in Ukraine and the aftermath of Covid-19 is taking a serious toll on Britons’ wallets.
He said food prices have risen by up to 12%, putting the average family’s £150£200 food shop up by around £20 a week.
Mr Black, an analyst with investment group Shore Capital, added: “We could see prices going a lot higher and some rationing. Those on lowest incomes will be squeezed most.”
He said the pinch would continue until the end of the war in Ukraine – which some experts predict could be years away.
