Cage: It’s my dad’s ashes, not a bomb

- BY DAVID JARVIS

HOLLYWOOD star Nicolas Cage has revealed how airport officials thought he was carrying a bomb when he took his late father’s ashes through security.

He was on his way to the Italian city of Venice to keep a promise and scatter them in the Grand Canal.

Staff at Los Angeles Airport insisted on inspecting the box, but Nicolas, 58, told them: “It’s not a bomb, it’s my dad.”

The Leaving Las Vegas star said he made the vow to his father before his death in 2009 aged 75.

He was eventually allowed through security and, when he arrived in Venice, got a boat taxi to keep his promise.

He said: “It’s midnight. I’m pouring his ashes in the water and all the church bells start ringing.”
