Flu virus set for rebound
FLU cases could rise to higher than pre-Covid levels next winter, the Government has warned.
Infections have been extremely low across the globe since 2020 thanks to pandemic measures such as mask-wearing and reduced social interaction.
But a joint statement from the UK Health Security Agency, Department of Health and NHS England warned this could change as social contact resumes.
They said: “There is likely to be a resurgence in influenza in 2022-23 to levels similar to, or higher than before the pandemic.”
Making the next flu vaccine is also difficult because of fewer viruses.
