and RISHI Sunak is to splash out up to £13,000 a year to heat his new swimming pool – six-and-a-half times the average energy bill.

The Chancellor has been building a pool, gym and tennis courts at his £1.5million manor in North Yorkshire. Ofgem’s decision to increase the energy price cap from this month has increased the cost of heating the pool by up to £3,500 a year.

Industry figures say it would cost Sunak £12,959.09 over a year to keep the water at 25C every day.

That compares to the average annual energy bill for a three-bed house of £1,970.57.

Waitress Ashley Blakey, 35, a single mother from Darlington who pays £300 a month, said: “Rishi Sunak is living a lavish lifestyle and the people of this country are being treated like dirt.” York Labour MP Rachel Maskell added: “Could a Tory Chancellor be any more out of touch if they tried?”

Mr Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy bought their home near Northallerton in 2015. A spokesperson did not comment.

SENIOR Tories say Priti Patel was always banking on never having to implement her cruel plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda.

They claim the Home Secretary hoped it would become so bogged down in legal challenges she would never get it off the ground.

And they say it was only intended as a vote-puller for next month’s local elections.

One ex-minister told the Sunday Mirror: “This nasty idea has served its purpose which was to throw some red meat to former UKIP voters. We know we’ll take a hammering at the polls over Partygate. This was designed to limit the damage.”

Another Tory MP said: “Priti will now be able to blame left-wing lawyers for scuppering this. There are those in the Home Office who think that was the plan all along.” Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: “This just shows how cynical the Tories are.”

The Home Office said the plan “fully complies with all international and national law” and it would “defend any legal challenge robustly”.
