EU acts over online harm

GOOGLE, Facebook and other tech giants must do more to tackle illegal content – or face big fines.

EU countries yesterday agreed a new Digital Services Act as part of a massive project to tame the “Wild West” of harmful online content.

“What is illegal offline will effectively be illegal online in the EU,” said European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen.

A UK equivalent law is also in the pipeline.
