Fury as rail degree hits the buffers
TRAIN experts are steaming after university chiefs axed the world’s only degree in railway history.
York University sparked fury after it announced the end of the line for the popular online MA course, hailed a major part of the UK’s railway heritage.
Tim Dunn, presenter of UKTV’s The Architecture the Railways Built, said: “The course was oversubscribed yet the university has no interest.”
The Journal of Transport History said it is: “A shortsighted decision which we deplore.” And rail industry chiefs spoke of their shock.
But York University said its “commitment to railway history” has not changed.
