Drinking responsibly

-

As the weather gets warmer, we often find ourselves drinking more alcohol in social settings, but guidelines say it’s only safe to drink 14 units (six pints of lager or six glasses of wine) a week.

“Drinking daily, especially more than a couple of units, causes your liver to work less efficiently, so ensure you have

alcohol-free days,” says Prof Sir Cary Cooper of Manchester University. Don’t want to miss out? “If you’re going to a gathering, try alcohol-free cocktails, or bring your own soft drinks in case there isn’t anything for you to drink,” he adds. Visit nhs. uk/live-well/alcohol-support
