Oldham 1 Salford 2
OLDHAM’S 115-year stay in the Football League came to a chaotic end at Boundary Park.
A 79th-minute pitch invasion by protesting Latics fans, which featured a giant protest banner in the middle of the pitch, initially halted proceedings with Salford leading 2-1.
After an initial announcement over the tannoy that the game had
been abandoned, the EFL later insisted it must restart, which it did behind closed doors.
An EFL statement read: “After discussions with both clubs, match officials and stadium security, it was agreed the match could be concluded.”
Matt Smith’s opener was cancelled out by Davis KeillorDunn’s penalty, only for Brandon Thomas-Asante to head home a winner for Salford.
