Stuck in mud with China’s cheap tyres
CHEAP Chinese tyres have been blamed for Russia’s faltering progress in its Ukraine invasion.
Corrupt Russian officers saved cash on inferior tyres for their trucks and armoured vehicles, officials in the West believe.
But their poor quality has meant vehicles have often got stuck in mud.
Officials say the combination of cheap tyres, wet weather and poor awareness of the terrain had slowed Russia’s advance in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region.
Meanwhile, ex-MI6 boss Sir Alex Younger said peace talks would be “very difficult” if Vladimir Putin succeeds in the region.
He said: “Putin has modified his approach. Arguably his objectives are more realistic and he is not going to give up.”
