Millions kept waiting for Rishi’s £150
MILLIONS of council tax payers have not had the £150 rebate promised by the end of April.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak pledged it would be in bank accounts to ease the burden of energy costs.
But BBC Money Box discovered “in April” became “from April” – meaning people must wait for the rebate, possibly until September.
Some councils have paid up, but other households in council tax bands A-D are yet to receive it.
The Levelling Up Department said: “Many councils have already started paying the rebate and we expect the rest to begin payments shortly.”
The Treasury said it had “always been clear” the rebate was “from April”.
