Renter crisis as landlords quit & sell up
MOVES to boost tenant rights could spark a housing crisis as landlords sell up, it is feared.
The National Association of Property Buyers supported moves by minsters to end no-fault evictions which make it easy to boot tenants out.
But it warned it comes as landlords are already quitting the market to cash in on recent rises in the value of property.
The NAPB said: “By imposing sweeping new powers at this juncture the Government runs the risk of driving out swathes of landlords in one go.
“The net impact will mean less affordable homes for people to rent.”
The average rent is £969 a month – up £62 since the start of the pandemic, says property website Zoopla.
