‘Millions left at mercy of soaring bills’

- BY STEPHEN HAYWARD

MORE than three-quarters of voters who switched from Tory to Labour think that the Government isn’t doing enough to ease the cost-of-living crisis, a survey shows.

The snap poll, carried out by Opinium as voters went to polling stations in Thursday’s local elections, reveals that just two in 10 believe ministers have done enough to help people with rising household bills.

The findings follow Bank of England warnings that Britain is on the brink of recession. The TUC’s Frances O’Grady said: “Years of standstill wages and cuts to social security have left millions at the mercy of soaring bills.”
