McColl’s bust but its shops will battle on
STORE bosses insist it is “business as usual” at McColl’s after the firm collapsed into administration, risking 16,000 jobs.
Britain’s biggest newsagent and convenience chain told staff – many of whom are women and work part-time – it hoped they would be transferred to the new owners.
One insider said: “It’s very unsettling. The McColl’s management are still running the company and it’s business as usual for the time being.”
Accountancy firm PwC will be appointed as administrator tomorrow.
Brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa, who own Asda, are said to be keen to pay £200million for the firm, which has 1,100 shops. The deal could also see the Issas pay its £170m debts.
