Yard cop fury over ‘German Maddie gaffe’
A FORMER top cop fears the German prosecutor in the Madeleine McCann probe may have scuppered the chances of the prime suspect ever standing trial.
Peter Bleksley blasted Hans Christian Wolters, who did a U-turn after indicating fibres from the girl’s pyjamas when she disappeared in 2007 may have been found in a van used by German rapist Christian Brueckner, 45.
Mr Bleksley, a founder member of Scotland Yard’s undercover unit in the 1980s, said: “Mr Wolters said to the effect, ‘We’ve got our man but we haven’t got the evidence’.
“That is ludicrous. Any pragmatic detective will tell you there is one thing knowing something and it is a completely different thing trying to prove it.”
