Everest test to ease toll of pandemic

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

A NURSE is to trek to the base camp of Mount Everest to raise cash for medics whose mental health was harmed by the pandemic.

Sukdeep Dhadda, 30, worked in intensive care at Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital treating patients with Covid.

She said staff “weren’t prepared for the amount of patients we lost” and some colleagues had found it difficult to cope with what they had seen.

Sukdeep, from Willenhall, West Mids, has raised more than £2,000 so far.

She will set off with school pals Susan Ward and Ryan Williams, to Nepal, where they will hike for 11 days to reach Everest base camp 17,700ft up.

She said: “I am really looking forward to the challenge and can’t wait.”
