Hubby and pals walking to heal

-

TIME OUT

Every year my husband Steve and his friends Ricky and Neil go away on a walking holiday to focus on their mental health.

I’m supportive of them taking this valuable break because it gives them the time and space to talk, reflect, listen and empathise with each other.

The charity mentalhealth.org says: “In England, around one in eight men has a common mental health problem.

“Some research also suggests that men who can’t speak openly about their emotions may be less able to recognise symptoms of mental health problems in themselves, and less likely to reach out for support.”

This year, my husband and his mates have needed their holiday more than ever because they’ve had to deal with a friend’s suicide and terminally ill parents, as well as the pressures of keeping their businesses thriving during these economically challenging times.

I know the week has been a healing time, and that they will all come back refreshed and with renewed vigour.
